Bankwest’s Technology division develops and executes all technical change within the organisation ensuring the leverage of technology to deliver the Bankwest strategy. The division works on a wide variety of technologies and initiatives using an agile methodology. Our team is responsible for the world-leading application of technology and operations across every aspect of the bank – from products and experiences for our customers, to essential tools within our business.

We are looking for the very best Chief Engineer to join our team as we execute a multi-year transformation program. You’ll be reporting into the Bankwest CIO and be an integral member of our leadership team. You will provide core technology and domain expertise while being responsible for designing solutions for complex challenges across Bankwest. You’ll have a strong risk mindset and take security from the first line of code approach. You will guide those around you to invest in their own engineering craft and mentor them to build world class applications.

We’re interested in hearing from people who:

  • Leads the overall design and engineering for a platform along with providing guidance and oversight to ensure that technical deliveries are aligned to engineering direction and strategy.
  • Have experience building and leading teams through complex multi-year builds ideally gained in a similar role within an enterprise environment or as a CTO in an ASX 200 organization or scaleup.
  • Can design and implement solutions to complex problems, including onboarding and migrating to new tooling as well as removing obsolete systems and code.
  • Can define engineering standards, uplift the engineering performance, and decide on the frameworks.
  • Can provide technical ownership of key assets, including roadmaps and technical direction.
  • Drive cultural and process changes supporting modern delivery practices.
  • Set and drive the agenda for key strategic initiatives.
  • Have a broad technology background with engineering as a core competency and demonstrated experience building enterprise software.
  • Have real world experience of building and leading teams who operate in the DevSecOps model.
  • Encourage risk-taking and constructively challenges the status quo while influencing stakeholders and building diverse and inclusive teams.

Skills:

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these will set you up for success in this team:

  • Solid experience working with large scale distributed systems and able to operate in a multi-platform environment.
  • Expertise with automation and designing software architecture in the banking domain.
  • Developing 3-tier application both on-premises and on cloud covering:
    • Frontend: React or Angular.
    • Backend: .Net Core (C#) or Java.
    • Database: SQL and NoSQL experience.
  • Microservices design and implementation of highly scalable APIs.
  • Scripting/programming languages (JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, Python).
  • CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Octopus).
  • Cloud – AWS along with certification
  • Solution and System Design.
  • Application Security and Observability.
  • Code quality control through peer programming, code review, and automated pipeline management.
  • Experience working on green field project is highly regarded.
