Gry Stene is an award-winning thought leader in digital transformation and agile product management. She leads businesses through significant change and transformation by translating between ‘geek speak’ and business. Through her 30 remarkable and passionate years in the industry, Gry has pioneered technological innovation for social change.
One of very few female software engineers, Gry has actively created diverse teams, collaborating closely with recruiters and HR to change processes to encourage women and other underrepresented groups in technical roles. She is on a mission to bring Arts into the STEM landscape to create ‘STEAM powered’ roles and organisations, where technical skills, creativity and compassion coexist to create better products.
Gry’s passion for diversity, inclusion and social change as a fundamental component of technological innovation is evident in her keynote speaking, as well as in her mentoring roles with The Smith Family, Rare Birds, Just Start IT and WIMWA (Women in Mining Western Australia). She strives to be actively involved with groups and organisations that encourage diversity and inclusion such as Women on Boards and WiTWA.
Gry can be found mentoring and generally helping out at coding and entrepreneur events such as Startup Weekend, and was excited to deliver her talk “Powering our Future with AI & STEAM at TEDxUWA in 2018.
In 2020, Gry decided to act on her lifelong interest in the cross-over between education, health and technology. She started STEAM Engine Global, a social enterprise that builds on the concepts from her TED talk and aims to bridge the gap and create career pathways for people who are underrepresented in tech roles and organisations.
